At 180ft high the giant is a prominent figure situated on Trendle Hill near the village of Cerne Abbas. The giant is a hugely important part of the local culture and folklore with many people believing him to be a significant fertility symbol – and even the quickest of glances is enough to learn why. He’s certainly not shy!

After a successful National Lottery Grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Cerne Historical Society have announced plans for their Centenary Exhibition and Celebrations. Events to mark the centenary of the most important juncture in the village history includes the village Horticultural Society Annual Show, concerts and the Annual Village Cricket Match.

The CERNE GIANT FESTIVAL was born out of our vibrant May Day tradition, when the Morris Dancers and villagers gather at dawn on the Trendle, the original site of the village Maypole at the top of the Cerne Giant, Dorset. Here we salute the sunrise and celebrate the start of summer with a barrel of Beltane Beer.

Come along and sample some of the tasty Dorset foods and drinks, as well as having a go at some Knob Games – see if you can beat the record for Knob Eating held since 2012 or Guess the Weight of the Big Knob, Pin the Knob on the Giant and many more fun games.
